Personal Assistance Services (PAS) may be provided through DARS to individuals with physical disabilities such as spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, or muscular dystrophy, who require assistance from another person to perform non-medical activities of daily living.
Personal assistance services are a range of services provided by one or more persons, designed to assist an individual with a disability to perform daily living activities on or off the job that the individual would typically perform if the individual did not have a disability. These services must be designed to increase the individual's control in life and ability to perform everyday activities on or off the job and include but are not limited to: Getting up and ready for work or going out into the community (including bathing and dressing), cooking, cleaning or running errands.
PAS services are consumer directed. Individuals must demonstrate the ability to self-manage their PAS program as it pertains to recruitment and hiring of attendants. DARS neither maintains a registry of individuals who provide personal assistance nor provides recommendations.
A PAS Application and assessment is needed to request PAS services. Comparable programs like the Medicaid Waiver must be applied for and ruled out before PAS services can be considered
